Johann's parentage is unknown, so this line cannot be taken back further with any certainty.
However, the Kreuz surname does appear in earlier surviving records for Alsweiler. In 1519, a Hans Crutz is listed among the 104 inhabitants of the village. In 1667, following the devastation of the Thirty Years War, only four families, consisting of 15 people, lived there. One of these was Conne La Croy (Conrad Creuz), so the Kreuz line in Alsweiler appears to have survived the conflict.
A list of village's 83 inhabitants from February 1707 includes Jean (Johannes) Creuz, a farmer with one minor child. This could be Johann's father.
Johann married Magdalena before 1720, probably in Alsweiler. The coat of arms of the village is shown here.
Between 1720 and 1725, Johann and Magdalena had two children, including Petrus Creutz.
Both of their children were born in Alsweiler, so the family lived there during that period.
