Johann was the son of Peter Staub, who was born in Bliesen, and Angela. The coat of arms of the village is shown here.

Johann married Johanna Rauber on 11 January 1757, possibly in Bliesen.

Between 1758 and 1760, Johann and Johanna had two children, including Katharina Staub.

Johanna remarried in 1763, and she was listed as a widow at that time, so Johann died in his twenties.
