Barbara was the daughter of Wendelinus
Schommer of Winterbach.
Barbara married Peter
Laub on 11 January 1697, probably in Bliesen. The coat of arms of the village
is shown here.
Between 1697 and 1718, Peter and Barbara had ten children:
- Johann (b. 13 Sep 1697)
He married A. Katharina Meyer (1701-1752)
A great-great grandson, Peter Backes (1813-1889), married Catharina Naumann (1819-1894). They emigrated with their children in 1851, and lived in Buffalo, New York.
- Katharina (b. 30 Nov
1699)
She married Wendelinus Thiel (d. 1762)
- Anna Barbara (b. 21 Sep 1702)
She married Johann Nikolaus Mayer (b. bef 1710)
- Theodor (Dietrich) (4 Jul 1704 - 2 Sep
1776)
He married Katharina Brück (ca 1712-1791)
Two grandsons, Peter Schu (1778-1812) and Michael Schu (1788-1812),
died in Russia while serving in the French Army during Napoleon's
invasion.
- Peter (18 Aug 1706 - 1 Oct 1726)
- Anna Maria (b. 1 Sep 1709)
- Michael (b. 24 May 1711)
- Johann Adam (b. 27 Oct 1713)
- Susanna (3 May 1715 - 8 Apr 1773)
She married Nicolaus Creuz (1707-1753)
- Maria (18 Jul 1718 - 3 Apr 1732)
She died at the age of thirteen.
Several of their children were recorded as having been born in
Bliesen, so the family lived there during that period.
