Maria's parentage is unknown, although her maiden name was Nay. There are several women named "Maria Margarita Nay" in the birth records from this period, so it is difficult to identify the correct individual. The year of birth given above comes from the 1850 census, and may not be completely reliable.

Maria married Jakob Anton Rothmund. There is a gap in the marriage register between 1819 and 1838, so the date of the marriage is unknown, although it most probably occurred in Trun. The coat of arms of the village is shown here.

In 1826, Jakob and Maria had a child:

1. Margreta Catrina (20 Sep 1826 - 12 May 1910)
   She married Jachen Pieder Lombriser (1821-1904)

Jakob and Maria appear in a census conducted in March 1850; they were living in Zignau. Their daughter's family appears in the next record, so they were probably living next to each other.
