Maria was the second of six surviving children of
Johann Jacob Gillen and
Catharina Klein. Her younger
brother, Johannes Gillen, is number 66 in this
Ahnentafel.
Catharina married Johannes
Frantz before 1773, possibly in Bliesen. The coat of arms of the village
is shown here.
Between 1773 and 1789, Johannes and Maria had seven
children:
- Johannes (3 Jun 1773 - 28 Mar 1776)
He died at the age of two.
- Petrus (16 Jul 1775 - 9 Apr 1800)
Petrus was a soldier in the 21st "half brigade." He died at age 24,
quite possibly as part of the French General Moreau's Army of the
Rhine, which drove the Austrians back from the Rhine in May
1800.
- Catharina (3 Sep 1777 - 4 Mar 1813)
She was the second wife of Johann Nikolaus Creutz
(b. 1765), who is number 64 in this
Ahnentafel.
- Anna Maria (11 Jan 1780 - 23 Feb 1809)
She married Michael Eckert (1773-1815)
- Maria (11 Oct 1784 - 1 Feb 1812)
She was the first wife of Jakob Nikolaus Biegel (1786-1859), and
died at age 27.
- Johann Nikolaus (27 Nov 1786 - 5 Jan
1858)
He married Maria Wagner (1791-1827), who was the daughter of
Johannes Wagner and Katharina Staub.
- Elisabeth (28 May 1789 -
27 Aug 1856)
She married Johann Nikolaus Wagner
(1786-1868)
Their children were born in Bliesen, so the family lived there
during that period.
Maria died at age 74.
