Franz was the second of three children of Franz "Lukas" Ganter and Eleonora Catharina Josepha Leuthin.
He held a variety of jobs in Buchhorn: barber, municipal grain measurer, warehouse employee, and night guardian. The coat of arms of the city is shown here.
Franz married Magdalena Brugger on 16 May 1779 in Buchhorn.
Between 1780 and 1797, Franz and Magdalena had seven children, including Franz Josef Ganter.
Franz died in his mid-fifties.
