Lawrence was the seventh of thirteen children of Peter Kreuz and Mary Ann Gillen. At the time of his birth, his family was living on Bancroft Road between County Line Road and State Route 295. He was baptized on 3 January 1904 at Immaculate Conception in Raabs, Ohio.
Later in 1904, the family moved to an 80-acre farm located on the north side of Frankfort Road between Lathrop and State Route 295.
He received the nickname of "Noe" early in life, and it probably refers to the Biblical Noah. He did not speak English until he started school. Lawrence attended the Frankfort School and the Immaculate Conception School. His father died when he was sixteen years old.
Lawrence married Leona Meiring on 17 September 1932 at Gesu Church in Toledo, Ohio.
They lived on a 40-acre farm at the southwest corner of Frankfort Road and State Route 295, one mile east of Frankfort Corners in Harding Township, Lucas County. It was across the road from his mother's farm.
He worked for Willys-Overland Motors, Inc. in Toledo for about three days when he was in his thirties. (This company later became the Jeep Corp.) He got acid in his eyes in an accident, which affected his vision for the rest of his life.
Lawrence and Leona had two sons in 1933 and 1936. They also raised one of Lawrence's nieces after his sister, Clara Kreuz Sanderson, died in 1944. She lived with the family until she was about seven years old.
With three of his siblings, John, Lee, and Bernard, the "Kreuz Brothers" farmed together until 1948.
According to his 1962 driver's license, he was six feet tall, weighed 160 pounds, and had brown hair and gray eyes.
Lawrence died at age 68 from cerebral arteriosclerosis, and was buried on 4 December 1972 in the Immaculate Conception Church cemetery in Raabs.
