May was the only surviving child of
John Ambrose Ruppel and
Victoria Neumann of Brighton. She was baptized at St.
Joseph's in Rochester, New York
on the day she was born.
Her mother died when she was three years old, and her father
remarried six months later. In the early 1860s, the family moved to
Ohio, and they were living in Providence Township, Lucas County by
1870. For a time, May did house work in Grand Rapids, Ohio.
May married Thomas
Lumbrezer on 15 April 1875 at Immaculate Conception in
Raabs, Ohio.
Between 1876 and 1895, Thomas and May had nine children:
- Catherine Mae (Katie) (4 Mar 1876 - 12 May
1941)
She married Edward John Langenderfer (1866-1943)
- Peter Ambrose (25 Feb 1878 - 15 Nov
1952)
He married Lena Eisel (1877-1953)
Peter worked at Willy's-Overland Motors, Inc. in Toledo.
- Joseph (20 Apr 1880 - 28 Feb 1956)
He married Margaret Matilda (Tillie) Bauer* (1884-1972)
Joseph worked as a farmer.
- Anthony George (10 Jul 1882 - 15 Jan
1972)
He married Caroline (Carrie) Gerten (1883-1946)
- Lawrence Michael (19 Nov 1884 - 18 Mar
1969)
He married Kathryn Eva Bauer* (1896-1990)
Lawrence worked as a farmer.
- George (28 Sep 1886 - 3 Oct 1886)
He died in infancy.
- Mary (Mae) (10 Sep 1887 - 11 Dec 1918)
She died of influenza at age 31 during the Spanish Flu
pandemic.
- Louis Peter (Louie) (7

He married Anna Eve Bauer* (1893-1979)
- Clarence Julius (24 Sep 1895 - 11 Sep
1969)
He married Martha Cornelia Hassen (1900-1982)
Clarence worked as a farmer.

The family lived in Spencer Township, Lucas County, Ohio.
May died at age 90 from a pulmonary edema, and was buried on 7
December 1946 in Immaculate Conception cemetery in Raabs. Her
tombstone can be seen here.
